What is Xend Real World Asset (RWA)?
Xend Real World Asset (RWA) is the native token of the Xend Finance platform. It was introduced in 2024 as a rebrand of the original XEND token. The rebrand was implemented alongside technical updates to the protocol and reflects a functional shift toward enabling tokenised representations of real-world assets on-chain.
The platform operates a modular architecture called the Onchain Asset Environment (OAE), which supports decentralised management and interaction with tokenised assets. RWA is deployed across multiple blockchain networks, including Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, and Arbitrum. Arbitrum is used as the primary chain for token liquidity and activity.
Xend Finance originally launched as a decentralised protocol for cooperatives and credit unions, and has expanded its infrastructure to support a broader set of asset-related services via smart contracts and identity-linked features.
What is RWA used for?
The RWA token is a utility and governance asset within the Xend Finance ecosystem. It supports a range of functions tied to platform access, community participation, and economic alignment:
Transaction Fees: RWA is used to pay for protocol-level operations, including minting and transferring tokenised assets across Xend's infrastructure.
Staking and Reputation: Users can stake RWA to earn rewards and build a staking score. This score influences a user's access to services and features within the Onchain Asset Environment (OAE).
Governance: Staking RWA tokens also grants users the right to participate in governance, including protocol updates and the selection of network validators.
Access to Services: A user’s staking score determines their eligibility for access to various services such as marketplace participation, reputation-based social hubs, and content publishing within the platform.
Payments: RWA can be used as an optional payment method for subscriptions, on-chain services, and other fee-based activities in the Xend ecosystem.
What is the Onchain Asset Environment (OAE)?
The Onchain Asset Environment (OAE) is the system within which Xend Finance manages and interacts with tokenised assets. It consists of several components:
AssetChain: A framework for minting, updating, and transferring asset tokens.
Xend Connect: An interface layer that supports interaction between creators, users, and validators.
Staking Score and Identity: A reputation mechanism tied to RWA staking, used to determine user permissions and service access.
Validator Layer: A decentralised component that supports governance and asset verification through role-based participation.
The OAE is designed to enable a range of tokenised asset services, governed and accessed through on-chain credentials, staking scores, and token utility.
What is the relationship between XEND and RWA?
RWA is the current token used on the Xend Finance platform. It replaces the previous token, XEND, which was used before 2024. The migration was executed at a 1:1 ratio, preserving existing balances across supported chains. Token holders were required to convert their tokens using designated migration smart contracts. The new token contract supports extended functionality, including governance, staking score integration, and compatibility with the OAE framework.
Although 'RWA' was the ticker assigned at the deployment of the Xend Real World Asset Token's smart contract, it is in use by another asset that has a larger market presence and higher trading volume on major exchanges. Due to this association and to avoid confusion in the marketplace, the alternative ticker 'XENDV2' has been adopted for this token. This designation is specifically used to ensure that assets are distinctly identified.
