Redbelly Network is a public, permissionless blockchain platform designed for compliant asset tokenisation. Developed through a collaboration between the University of Sydney and CSIRO's Data61, it employs a leaderless consensus mechanism known as Democratic Byzantine Fault Tolerance (DBFT) to achieve high performance with near-instant finality. The platform focuses on accountability by integrating an innovative identity layer that ensures all network participants are known.

Redbelly Network enables real-world asset issuers to tokenise and trade compliant on-chain structured products. It allows asset managers to establish digital registries as a shared source of truth and create structured financial products using tokenised assets. The platform integrates full user identity and accountability at the transaction layer, protecting user personally identifiable information with zero-knowledge proofs and verifiable credentials. This ensures proper licensing, jurisdiction compliance, and eliminates the need for repetitive KYC processes.

Redbelly Network was developed at the University of Sydney in collaboration with CSIRO's Data61, the Australian National Science Agency. The project has been in development since 2016, with contributions from various researchers and industry experts. The network is supported by Redbelly Network Pty Ltd, a private company registered in Australia, focusing on layer-1 development of the Redbelly Protocol and promoting the adoption of Redbelly blockchain technology.
