MetaDAO was founded by an individual known as Proph3t, who was inspired by Robin Hanson's writings on futarchy. Proph3t had experience in Ethereum DeFi and collaborated with Nallok, a market maker and validator operator in the Solana ecosystem. The project officially launched in November 2023, initially distributing 10,000 META tokens via airdrop​​.
