What is MEME (MEMEBRC)?

Question

Accepted Answer

MEMEBRC is a meme-themed cryptocurrency built on the BRC-20 token standard, operating within the Bitcoin network. It was launched on 8 March 2023 as the second BRC-20 token ever created. MEMEBRC aims to integrate internet meme culture with blockchain technology by enabling users to mint, trade, and interact with digital memes on the Bitcoin blockchain.

The token was initially minted through a community-driven process over a 28-day period, contributing significantly to the early adoption of inscriptions on Bitcoin—accounting for approximately 10% of the first one million inscriptions.

***Although 'MEME' was the ticker assigned at the deployment of the MEME token's smart contract, it is in use by another asset that has a larger market presence and higher trading volume on major exchanges. Due to this association and to avoid confusion in the marketplace, the alternative ticker 'MEMEBRC' has been adopted for this token. This designation is specifically used to ensure that assets are distinctly identified.***
