Question 1

What is Ethereum Wrapped Filecoin (EFIL)?

Accepted Answer

Ethereum Wrapped Filecoin (EFIL) is an ERC-20 token designed to represent Filecoin (FIL) on the Ethereum blockchain. It allows Filecoin to be used in Ethereum's decentralised finance (DeFi) ecosystem by "wrapping" FIL through a smart contract. The EFIL token is pegged 1:1 with the native FIL token, meaning each EFIL token is backed by an equivalent amount of FIL, held in custody by Gemini, a regulated cryptocurrency exchange.

Question 2

What is Ethereum Wrapped Filecoin (EFIL) used for?

Accepted Answer

EFIL enables Filecoin holders to access Ethereum's DeFi applications and protocols such as Uniswap and Aave, which natively support Ethereum-based tokens. By wrapping FIL into EFIL, users can trade, lend, and provide liquidity on these platforms, which is otherwise not possible with the native FIL token alone. This allows for greater utility and flexibility for Filecoin users, especially when interacting with smart contracts and earning potential yield.

Question 3

Who created Ethereum Wrapped Filecoin (EFIL)?

Accepted Answer

EFIL was developed by Gemini, a cryptocurrency exchange based in New York, as part of its efforts to bridge Filecoin with Ethereum's DeFi ecosystem.
