Question 1

What is DeGate (DG)?

Accepted Answer

DeGate (DG) is the native token of the DeGate decentralised exchange (DEX) protocol, an Ethereum Layer-2 (L2) DEX designed to operate within the framework of a Decentralised Autonomous Organisation (DAO). The protocol integrates features such as automated market-making (AMM), orderbook trading, leveraged trading, Layer-1 to Layer-2 bridging, fiat on/off-ramps, and token launch services. DeGate focuses on scalability and cost efficiency, leveraging Ethereum’s Layer-2 solutions like rollups to enhance transaction throughput and reduce costs.

Question 2

What is DeGate (DG) used for?

Accepted Answer

The DG token primarily serves as a governance token within DeGate’s two-tier DAO system: Home DAO and Council DAO. Holders of DG tokens can vote on key governance proposals, including operational decisions, budget allocations, and partnerships. The token also facilitates protocol funding, liquidity mining, and incentivisation programmes. DG is integral to the governance structure and supports the functioning of DeGate’s modules such as the AMM, leveraged trading, and the bridging service.

***Although 'DG' was the ticker assigned at the deployment of the DeGate Token's smart contract, it is already in use by another asset that has a larger market presence and higher trading volume on major exchanges. Due to this pre-existing association and to avoid confusion in the marketplace, the alternative ticker 'DEGATE' has been adopted for this token. This designation is specifically used to ensure that assets are distinctly identified.***
