Banano (BAN) is a feeless, instant cryptocurrency built on DAG technology, launched in 2018 as a fork of Nano. It facilitates quick peer-to-peer transactions and fosters a community-centric environment with a focus on education and engagement.

Banano (BAN) is a fourth-generation cryptocurrency that operates on a directed acyclic graph (DAG) architecture, specifically utilising a "block-lettuce" structure. This design enables feeless and instantaneous transactions. Launched on 1 April 2018 as a hard fork of Nano, Banano aims to disrupt the meme economy by combining advanced technology with a lighthearted, community-driven approach.

Banano is designed for rapid, feeless peer-to-peer transactions, making it suitable for microtransactions and tipping within online communities. Its user-friendly nature and emphasis on fun and education have fostered a vibrant community that engages in various activities, including airdrops, faucets, and interactive platforms like Jungle TV, where users can earn Banano by watching videos.

Banano was developed by a team of contributors, some of whom had previously worked on Nano. The project was initiated to address certain limitations in existing cryptocurrencies by offering feeless and instant transactions within a meme-centric framework. The team members often use playful pseudonyms and avatars, reflecting the project's humorous and community-focused ethos.

Although 'BAN' was the ticker assigned at the deployment of the Banano Token's smart contract, it is already in use by another asset that has a larger market presence and higher trading volume on major exchanges. Due to this pre-existing association and to avoid confusion in the marketplace, the alternative ticker 'BANANO' has been adopted for this token. This designation is specifically used to ensure that assets are distinctly identified.
