Question 1

What is it?

Accepted Answer

Balancer (BAL) is a cryptocurrency token that is primarily associated with the Balancer protocol. Balancer is a decentralized automated portfolio manager and liquidity protocol built on the Ethereum blockchain. It aims to provide users with a way to create and manage self-balancing token portfolios, known as liquidity pools.

The Balancer protocol is designed to enable users to create and customize liquidity pools with multiple tokens and different weights. These pools can be used for various purposes, including trading, liquidity provision, and yield farming. Balancer offers a unique feature called "smart pools," which allows users to set their own parameters for pool management, such as fees, asset allocations, and rebalancing strategies.

Question 2

What is it used for?

Accepted Answer

As for the token itself, BAL serves multiple purposes within the Balancer ecosystem. It can be used for governance, giving holders the ability to propose and vote on protocol upgrades and changes. BAL holders can also earn rewards by participating in liquidity mining programs, where they provide liquidity to specific Balancer pools and receive BAL tokens as incentives. Furthermore, BAL tokens can be staked to earn a share of the protocol's trading fees.

Question 3

Who created it?

Accepted Answer

Balancer was created by a team of developers and researchers, including Mike McDonald, Fernando Martinelli, and Nikolai Mushegian.
