Question 1

What is ATOR Protocol (ATOR)?

Accepted Answer

ATOR Protocol is a cryptocurrency that was launched in 2023. It operates on the Ethereum platform and has a total supply of 100 million ATOR tokens. The protocol aims to enhance the functionality and adoption of The Onion Router (Tor) network by providing on-chain incentives. This is achieved through various means including:

A framework for existing Tor relays to receive cryptocurrency rewards in ATOR for their uptime, utilizing a Proof-of-Uptime mechanism.
The introduction of the ATOR Router Hotspot, which allows users to route their web traffic through Tor.
The development of the ATOR Relay, a version of the Tor relay, designed for Tor routing and compatible with the ATOR Proof-of-Uptime framework, enabling users to mine ATOR and contribute to web anonymity.

Question 2

What is ATOR Protocol (ATOR) used for?

Accepted Answer

ATOR Protocol is used to incentivize the operation of relays in decentralized networks like Tor. This incentive model is expected to enhance privacy and security in these networks. ATOR tokens are also used to fund development, team operations, and outreach efforts. The token serves as the gateway for participation in the ATOR ecosystem, including accessing dedicated relays for enterprise-level bandwidth, using it as a unit of exchange for third-party services, and for governance purposes. Moreover, ATOR Protocol aims to facilitate wider adoption of secure network relay protocols and strengthen the security of the Tor network through its on-chain incentives.
