For almost three years, thousands of enlisted players have been waiting to start their interstellar adventure in the Farsite universe – the decentralized MMO set in a post-apocalyptic future, where humans have had to leave the Earth aboard spaceships in search of new planets and scarce resources.
Developed by Supernovae, the team behind one of the first successful blockchain-powered games MegaCryptoPolis, Farsite brings meat to the table for those who seek new opportunities in the world of decentralized gaming.
The main asset in the game is a spaceship that is presented in the form of a collateral non-fungible token (cNFT) called a Ship. In the great space race for power, territories and scarce resources, there is always a risk of a loss where players can lose their precious Ships in battle. That's when the collateral steps in. Once a Ship is destroyed, voluntarily or not, collateral in the form of Credits, ERC-20 tokens used as the main game currency, returns to the player’s wallet.
The game offers a wide range of playable roles for its players, who can do anything from mining rare resources on the surface of distant planets and asteroids, hauling precious cargo to marketplaces and factories, building powerful spaceships and modules, and even becoming mercenaries or politicians, or both.
Farsite has successfully conducted an early pre-order of extremely limited Crates containing unique Ships. The most valuable were sold out within hours, appearing on OpenSea shortly after for twice the price. The Ships can be obtained from Crates or created from Blueprints, except for 50 exclusive Coindesk branded NFT Ships. These were designed and created by the Farsite team, minted and distributed by Unifty for Consensus’ 2021 DESK market. These Ships were already sold out on the second day of the expo and are now available only in the secondary market.
According to Supernovae, the long-awaited Farsite Alpha will see the light on June 21, 2022. Players are already able to build planetary bases and mine resources within their sectors and trade them on the open market for Credits. With the Alpha release, players will be able to mine resources on asteroids, craft materials and build new Ships and Modules with Blueprints acquired from Crates.
