The GPS Gamification Ecosystem was a play-to-earn gaming and rewards platform that integrated blockchain technology, geo-location, and augmented reality. It was created by Coinerz Group and operated on the Ardor blockchain, developed by Jelurida. The ecosystem aimed to tokenize user activity, allowing developers to create applications where users could earn GPS Tokens through various engagements such as movement tracking, augmented reality experiences, and NFT interactions.
The project initially launched on the Ignis blockchain in 2017 before migrating to Ardor in 2019. It featured multiple applications, including Triffic, a mobile app that rewarded users with GPS Tokens for moving around in real life, and GeoMorfs, an augmented reality collectibles system. The GPS Foundation, which governed the token distribution, planned to transition into a decentralised autonomous organisation (DAO).
By late 2022, the project showed signs of being discontinued, with the original GPS.ECO wallet being retired in favour of the Ardor Wallet. The official website and key resources became inaccessible, and trading activity on exchanges diminished.
GPS Token (GPS) was the native cryptocurrency of the GPS Gamification Ecosystem. It functioned as the utility and governance token, enabling users to earn rewards, interact with applications, stake for governance, and participate in the development of decentralised applications (DApps) on the ecosystem.
The total supply of GPS Tokens was capped at 1,000,000,000, with allocations set aside for staking rewards, governance, development grants, and incentivisation. Initially, it was distributed via the Triffic app, where users could convert in-game rewards (Miles) into GPS Tokens.
GPS Tokens were designed for multiple gamification and financial use cases, including:
The GPS Gamification Ecosystem was developed by Coinerz Group, a company focused on integrating blockchain with gamification. The project operated in partnership with Jelurida, the company responsible for developing Ardor and Nxt blockchain technologies. While Coinerz Group led the project, Jelurida maintained the blockchain infrastructure supporting the GPS Token.
The project initially distributed GPS Tokens via an airdrop to Ignis holders in 2019 and launched the Triffic App as a core distribution mechanism.
