The New Ethics of Privacy and Pseudonymity

At Consensus 2022, internet historian Katherine Dee, aka Default Friend, led a discussion of hotly debated questions around when it is appropriate to reveal the real name behind an internet handle, when doing so constitutes an unwarranted violation of privacy, and how these norms may be shifting. She was joined by Brendan Eich, CEO of Brave Software, former CEO of Mozilla and the inventor of JavaScript; Paul Walsh, founder of cybersecurity firm MetaCert and VR startup Wubud and a veteran of AOL; and Logan Allen, CTO of Tirrel Corporation, a startup building on the Urbit network.
